Forge Tip: Coordinates [Easy]

by KnightedLegend

The base of any forged map in Halo is placing blocks. There are two ways of doing this:

1) General Placement
2) Coordinates

The method I prefer is using 1 to make the block approximately where I want it, and then 2 to do the fine tuning. You can just use 1 for your entire map, but generally it lacks consistency and it generally doesn't look very nice in the end. Coordinates give you precision and speed.

Issues:

There are a couple issues when using coordinates. To start off, meshing becomes very easy, but you will get a flashing from time to time as halo tries to decide which block's face should be showing. Unfortunately, this requires a bit of fine tuning when the flashing becomes distracting. There is a simple way of fixing this. Grab the block, and click RB or LB and then A in rapid succession. This will move the block up a small amount, and halo will no longer have an issue. The second issued is angled meshing. Whenever you are meshing angled blocks, make sure that you have your angle snap to "OFF". This will allow you to rotate in 1 degree increments and allow for the best meshing possible.

Extra Tip: Rotation Snap is a great tool. Most of the blocks I put down are either 45 degrees or 90 degrees from standard. I keep it at 45 degrees for most of my forging. Try it out!

Octagon for Halo Reach!!!

The unofficial Halo 3 training map is now on Halo Reach. Our specially trained forge team here at TheFieldTest has just released our first Octagon map. 2 versions can now be downloaded from "knighted's" file-share. Version 2 is larger octagon created for the increased accuracy of the DMR and longer nade throws. Version 3 on the other hand is an octagon designed to the specifications of theoriginal octagon we all know and love. Both files are accompanied by the game type file.

Road to 50 Update "Why no videos?"

Hey guys. Well, if you have been following my Road to 50, then you might be wondering "What happened to the videos? There hasn't been one in a week!" There is good reason for that. Lately I haven't been ranking up as much as I did the first couple days. Frankly, there haven't been any videos because I haven't had many rank ups to tell you about! I'm sitting at 46 in TS, 44 in Snipers, 43 in Lone Wolves, 40 in doubles, and 41 in Swat. With only 10 days left in my challange, the outcome is beginning to look a little bleak. I still have some hope left, but it's fading slowly. I'm getting tired to 50s telling me "you have the skills, just go get it" when clearly I'm missing something because my 50 is evading me like a ghost in the night. Wish me luck!

Perhaps you are also wondering why there haven't been any more videos from us here at the Field Test. Don't worry, in about a month's time, you'll see the videos roll out. Expect many tutorials and other videos about Reach!

Cheers.

The Road to 50 - Day 12 v. Bungie!

-- Knighted --
I haven't posted a video lately so this video covers day 6 - 12.  I got my 46 back in team slayer and my 45 in snipers.  Those are the two playlists where I believe are the best for me to try to get my 50.  I am playing with a past 49 in snipers and 47 in TS.

A couple days ago playing level 46 team slayer, I saw a player run though top gold on guardian with his head a lit.  Immediately my heart fell, knowing he was probably amazing, but this is what happened...

Thanks guys,

     - Knighted
